Note to all buyers/owners of CK7- I have just found the ultimate upgrade for these earphones. I stumbled across a Shure display stand a few months back, and tried out their 310. While I found the 310 was very detailed and has a great sound stage, I compared it to my CK7, which has similar mids and highs but slightly less bass (and CK7 costs much less!). So I decided not to buy the 310, seeing that I already had a decent pair of headphones.

I have been looking around for a while for some earphones that balance the comfort and ease of use of the Sennheiser CX300s without the excessive bloated bass. I tried models from Ultimate Ears and Goldring with no luck. But my search ended with the ATH-CK7s. These sound very good, very balanced: nice tight bass in the correct proportion with mids and highs. They have lots of detail, so you can hear individual instruments very clearly.
They are very comfortable to use, a fraction more difficult to fit than the CX300s but nothing worth worrying about. The build quality is great, the feel of the titanium is very nice.

The CK7s find a great balance between sounding neutral and being a fun pair of headphones to listen to. I used to listen to very neutral (read: no bass) IEMs before buying the CK7s, and I found it to be rather boring when listening to my hip hop collection. Noticeable upgrade from the Senn CX300 I have been using for more than a year.
Better defined lows and crisp clear highs compared to the 300s.
The cord is also an improvement - it tangles less and is a Y-type as opposed to the J-type of the 300s.
Fit and seal/isolation are slightly better on the 300s.
The included pictogram shows them worn cord-over-ear style (presumably to reduce cable microphonics), but regular style also seems to work fine.

I owned a pair of Etymotic ER-6i's which I bought for a similar price, but the cable connected to the mini jack started to fray so I took a risk with these even though I was very satisfied by the sound produced by the ER6i's. Eventually I think I made the right decision buying this pair. The sound is comparable, if not, better because of the great bass response. At first I wasn't very impressed because they sound muffled, but give em a few hours to warm up and the difference will be like night and day. I've only previously used the dodgy earphones that come packed in with the iPod. After investing in some quality speakers, I found the iPod earphones to be extremely lacking, so I purchased these after reading the many positive reviews.
I am very impressed - the bass is sharp and 'punchy', after running my headphones through music for about 72 hours (i just ran them overnight) the trebles became amazingly clear and sharp. The only weak point are the midtones, but you can barely tell unless you're an audiophile.

Best-sounding in-ear phones I tried; these actually have good treble extension to higher frequencies, and also have better-balanced bass down to lower frequencies, with less distortion/resonance overall. (I tried several other brands including Shure E2C, Ultimate Ears super.fi3/super.fi5, Creative Aurvana, and Sennheiser CX300.)
The earpieces are very comfortable, but I had to use earpieces from another brand to get better seal & bass response. (Ultimate Ears super.fi3 medium or large earpieces; these earpieces are nearly identical to ATH-CK7 earpieces in size/shape but are slightly stiffer, sealing a little more tightly in ear.) …read full review

I have previously been using a pair of Sennheiser CX300s to listen to my iPod but I wasn't happy with the boomy bass and lack of treble detail. I read several reviews of these Audio Technica earphones before purchasing them (including on this site) and I have not been disappointed. The bass is far more controlled and has great impact but does not overwhelm the sound as with the Sennheisers. The treble is far more detailed and I am noticing things in the music that I had missed previously.

I've got mixed feelings about these ones. Previous to these ones I owned the Sony MDREX71 headphones and was really happy with them. However when they started getting a bit unreliable after three years of daily use I decided to start looking for a new travel mate.
To cut right to the chase, The Audio Technica phones are better when it comes to audio quality, at least in clarity in the mid and high range of the music. However the bass is not as powerful as the MDREX71, and that was a bit of a dissapointment to me. The bass is a bit shorter and not as deep. I cannot say enough about these inner ear phones OR the Audio-Cubes firm. I have tried many different brands of high end phones, some better, some worse. However these are up in the top, and others have said the technical things, so I won't repeat them. What I do want to say, is these phones are small, discreet { you don't look like a dork with huge weird things hanging off your head } tasteful, and VERY very comfortable. I'm very happy with this earphone. Build quality is awesome and sound quality is awesome as well. High/Mid/Bass are all quite good even when I compare it to my ATH-A900 headphone. Of course ATH-A900 has better sound quality but it's 3 times the price and is a full size headphone so that's pretty much expected.
Wearing it is quite comfortable and it blocks the outside noise reasonably well.
The cord is not very long which is ideal when use with a portable MP3 player but not so good if you going to use it on a desktop music player/desktop computer unless you use an extension cable as well.

I like these very much. A real improvement over the stock buds that came with my meizu sp. They do take some breaking in, but thats normal. The sound seems accurate to me, no bloated/exaggerated bass or other freq. Highs are pristeen, and mids uncolored. A note though; proper ear placement is very important. When I first put them in, did it incorrectly & the sound was tinney & lacking bass. So I read the instructions that said how to put them in the ear-looks upside down to me-and then the bass is great, and no tinny sound. I have owned the ATH-CK7 for about 6 months. These are decent headphones for the price, but they aren't for everyone. They do not isolate as well as other headphones around the same price (cx300, ex71, e2c, ep-630, etc.) The bass is punchy but lacks the impact (or bloat) of the cx300/ex71. Mids are good, a notch or two below the e2c mids. The highs are what is so special about this earphone - they are pretty amazing. To my ears, they sound a little "colored" though (not 100% accurate). What can I say, I am extremely impressed by these headphones. I ended up buying these because I was a bit disappointed with my Bose TriPort IE headphones, which had muddy overpowering bass and limited highs. They also had silicon tips that came off so easily, it became impractical to take them anywhere! This is not the case with the ATH-CK7, the tips stay right where they are.
The shipping from AC was very fast, I live in the UK and they arrived in a matter of days.
The ATH-CK7 have great bass that is not too overpowering, with smooth mids and highs. Sometimes the highs are a tad bright but I think it could be the particular tracks I was listening to. …read full review

I used to have the Sony MDR-EX52SL and the Sharp HP-MD33S, this one is quite better than both, although (i'm not a pro audiophile ) I see little difference between them and the MD33. I can hear better and crisper highs with them (trebble on MD33 are very good and very crsp as well, don't get me wrong) but i find the bass on the MD33 more present.
Also, to hear everything well, you need to put the earphones in a certain way showed on the instructions, which is a little bit of a hassle for a simple earphone.

Call me the little black sheep.
My previous experience is with the Sharp MD33-S - and i have to say in short, that these AT's dont even come close.
Especially when they cost $40 more than the MD's.
Sound is too high piched, almost tinny sounding - when compared with my MD's.
I am hoping with use they will improve, but 100 hours is a lot of painful wearing in to get a decent sound.
The only advantage these have is the longer cable.
The MD's need an extension to be functional, as the chord is way too short - (dosnt even reach to your pocket.) - and the extension chord provided is way too long.
